|Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBVI) |
The Division of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBVI) is to provide individualized rehabilitation services that result in optimal employment and independent living outcomes for citizens who are blind or visually impaired. On line Application or Download Application
|The Telephone Adaptive Device (TAD) program is for people with disabilities other than deafness, deaf/blind, hard of hearing and in some cases speech impairment) Special equipment is available based on income eligibility to enhance telephone communication. The Program provides telecommunication devices such as fully voice activated phones, picture dialing phones, large button phones and other equipment including iPhones & iPads which may be needed to communicate through the phone system. |
|Video Magnification Lease/Loan Program|
Over the years, The Division of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBVI) has received donations from individuals in memory of loved ones. Thanks to the generosity of those individuals, the Division implemented the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Lease/Loan Program in April of 2004 as option in The Independent Living Older Blind Services Program. |Deaf Blind Program. The iCanConnectSD is a program established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to distribute a wide array of assistive technology to people who are deaf-blind and require special equipment to make a phone call, send an email or access the Internet. Application|
|The Strengthening Families Program|
The Strengthening Families Program is designed to assist families who have a child or adult with a developmental disability. A flexible pool of limited funds is available for eligible families, regardless of income, to use to purchase services or supports that otherwise are not available.
|Family Support 360|
Family Support 360 serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This program assists participants and their families in self-directing the services they need to live as independently as possible in the community.
|Hearing Aid Assistance Program for individuals under 19 years of age. HAAP will help with the cost of hearing aid(s) and associated ear mold(s) for South Dakota children, younger than 19, with progressive or permanent hearing loss who would benefit from hearing aid(s). |Cochlear Implant Program. The Division of Rehabilitation Services, through the Department of Human Services, administers the Cochlear Implant Program. This program is designed to provide financial assistance to an eligible individual who is uninsured or to help offset the deductible or coinsurance for an individual with an insurance plan that covers cochlear implants. |Department of Education Office of Special Education Special Education Programs provides leadership and support for educators, parents, and students with disabilities receiving special education and related services throughout South Dakota’s public schools and communities. We strive to support districts and families to improve outcomes and ensure a free appropriate public education for students with disabilities.|
| Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program. |
The Telecommunications Equipment Distribution program is to provide accessible telephone services for individuals who are deaf, deaf-blind, have severe hearing loss or are speech-impaired. This is accomplished through a combination of both the Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) and the Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program (TED). Special equipment is available based on income eligibility to enhance telephone communication. The Program provides telecommunication devices such as amplified phones, loud ringers with or without flashing lights, captioned phones, TTY's and other equipment including iPhone & iPads which may be need to communication through the phone system. |Independent living (IL) services are available to people with disabilities through Centers for Independent Living in South Dakota. Funded in part by the state and a federal IL grant, services are provided to improve the ability of individuals to function independently in their home and community. The South Dakota Benefits Specialist Network helps people receiving supplemental security income (SSI) and social security disability insurance (SSDI) to understand how work will impact their benefits such as food stamps, housing, Medicaid, and others.
