For those who can 10-finger type and for those who need somewhat larger keys, this LightWRITER may be ideal. The keyboard is 11" x 5-1/8" (28 x 13 cm) and the keys are 5/8" (1.6 cm) square. A speaker on top makes for easy listening to the speech output. The unit retains all the characteristics of the standard LightWRITER SL35.

The SL35/C may be carried by the built-in handle of the polycarbonate mounting plate or it may be attached to a wheelchair mounting system. A carry strap is standard.

LightWRITER with oversized keyboard.

With its extra large keys, this LightWRITER provides easy access for those with motoric or visual limitations. The keyboard is arranged alphabetically making it an ideal starter unit for youngsters learning to spell or for individuals who can't cope with the standard typewriter layout. The transparent heavy-duty keyguard and "raincoat" are standard.

The unit retains all the characteristics of the standard LightWRITER SL35 — speech output, message retrieval, abbreviation expansion, word prompting, etc. A speaker on top makes for easy listening to the speech output and the serial port may be used for other accessories. The keys are are 3/4" (1.9 cm) square with a 1" (2.5 cm) spacing. At a weight of 8.5 pounds (3.9 kg), the SL35/BigKeys is intended for desktop use.

Simply turn on the Message Builder feature and build your message. Then press the Speak key to say your message, the Repeat key to repeat the last sentence spoken, the Clear key to erase the entire message, or the Back key to erase the last entry.

Keyboard or Switch Operation

Each MessageMate features membrane keys for a light touch, with an optional stiffener for a heavier touch. Keys are easy to access and can be combined to make larger keys. Four different accept times help eliminate accidental key selections. MessageMate 20 and 40 models are also switch accessible and feature fully adjustable scan rates. Mini-MessageMate has individual switch inputs for each key.
